Shreejit Modak, Assoc. AIA is an Urban Designer and an Architect from India. Currently based in New York City, he is actively participating in the fields of Architecture and Urbanism. Development of urban scenarios have always fascinated him and his focus of work has been in the relationship between urban scales and various facets of Architecture.

 

In 2012, he graduated from Mumbai University, India, in Bachelors of Architecture and in 2015, he completed his master of Urban Design from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. The studios and coursework allowed him to explore projects related to urban interventions around public markets, activation of underdeveloped and unsafe communities, innovation districts, reactivation of public life around civic and educational institutions by developments of enclaves and incubator spaces, connections of landscapes through urban, vertical farming and ecological sites.

He worked as a Junior Architect in India and had been a part of various successful completion of projects ranging from club house design to complex master planning of residential and mixed-used units. His ideas brought a combination of architectural design and ecological sustainability in many projects like regeneration of sewage canal and development of mixed-use commercial building besides it.

After graduating from Michigan, Shreejit moved to New York and started working in MKW + Associates as Urban Designer. Here he was involved in designing of various NYC parks. He worked as part of a team on projects focusing on public realms in creating landscape framework plans, waterfront redevelopments and environmentally responsive districts. He gained hands-on experience in working with NYC Parks Department and addressing successful design presentations which later went into construction stage.

He is currently work as an Architectural Designer in Philip Toscano Architects, where he also works as Project Manager on various jobs. He has been involved in projects like historic façade renovation and preservation, ADA ramps at historic buildings, renovation and designing of storefronts, interior designing of commercial stores and offices and designing of one – two family and multifamily buildings. He has worked closely with City Agencies like Dept. of Buildings, Dept. of Transportation, Landmarks Preservation Committee and NYC Parks Dept.

Shreejit has been actively working in many competitions which involve research on and address the ideas of creating new typologies for accommodating urbanization in major cities, exploration of connectivity’s through landscapes in harnessing energy and communal spaces, creation of self-sustaining communities for future cities, etc.
